Never judge a book by its cover or a chip shop by its frontage it seems.

On entering this oh so cleverly named chippy I expected an embrace from Tony Soprano but instead was greeted by some bhangra beats. The service was laid back to the point of falling over and the inside was pretty uninspiring to say the least. My heart dipped and I have to admit I feared the worst. Still these are not important in the scheme of things - what matters is, is the grub any good? You don't go to a chippy expecting the Ritz after all.

The only good sign was I would have to wait for chips, usually an indication they will be piping hot and fresh out of the fryer. And this is where events took a new twist, because what was dished up was a pleasing cod and chips, and at a reasonable £4.30 too.The chips lived up to expectation and tasted really fresh. They appeared to use good spuds, even pleasing the pallet of a man whose heritage is Irish, therefore automatically qualifying me as an expert.

The fish melted in your mouth and the batter was definitely better than your run of the mill fare. The portions were healthy and only a lifetime’s training of gluttonous eating enabled me to gobble up the lot. There is a range of food here, including chicken, other fish and of course saveloy. These things should have a protection order on them, so processed but so delicious.
